Which boat should you choose ?
First, you must decide what sort of sailing you intend to do. The choice of boat depends on this.
Do you want to :
- Visit several pieces of water in the same season ?
Your boat should not exceed 6 m and 1000 kg to avoid problems with towing and launching.
- Sail on sea, or in semi-protected waters such as : The Arcachon Basin, Morbihan Gulf, Trieux, the Rance etc...
A clinker built hull is highly desirable for its obvious seaworthiness.
A Traditional Runabout or Utility should be at least 18 foot (5.50 m) long.
- Sail on lakes and rivers
A "small" boat may suffice, from 16 foot upwards for an inboard.
- Drive a racing power boat with or without your wife...
Choose a 2-seater Gentleman's Racer built in the 40's or 50's. This will guarantee charm and dramatic sensations.
- Sail with the whole family in the most pleasant atmosphere.
A big Utility or Launch would allows you to take 6 people or more for a picnic or a fishing party.
