CHRIS CRAFT

nthony Mollica Jr. and Jack Savage

Chris-Craft is undeniably one of the most famous names of the boating and motorboating history. This yard founded in 1922 by an american family of humble origin has become, in a few years, the biggest world producer of mahogany runabouts. The trademark Chris-Craft was born from a simple idea : to build boats in series as Henry Ford did with his cars. This book tells 50 years of the Chris-Craft history through the description of hundreds of different models which were created since the origins until the end of the mahogany building era in the 1960's.

From the motorboats of the Golden Age to the 15 m-motor yacht and more, the most prolific yard marked its time by the boldness of its designs and the beauty of its creations which has become today an absolute must in "classics".

The famous italian Riva motorboats would not have been created if Chris-Craft had not existed. After the war, Carlo Riva had one goal : to copy the famous american firm and, if possible, be much better. The decline of the wooden Chris-Craft during the late 1950's opened up new horizons.

The story of the most famous boating and motorboating yard.
